Instant Gratification Quick Takes: September 2, 2011

Highlighting odd and off-beat new releases to watch instantly on Netflix

New for August 2, 2011

Buried (2010), directed by Rodrigo Cortes, with Ryan Reynolds, José Luis García Pérez, Robert Paterson, Stephen Tobolowsky, Samantha Mathis, Ivana Miño, Warner Loughlin, Erik Palladino, Kali Rocha and Cade Dundish – A contractor working in Iraq (portrayed by Ryan Reynolds) is buried alive with nothing but a candle, lighter, cell phone and knife. Action! Is it trendy to talk about how much you hate Ryan Reynolds — or do people like him now? I can never get that straight. Personally, I’ve never cared for Mr. Reynolds, but I have heard good things about this movie — so it’s in the queue. [IMDb, Trailer] (Available until March 2, 2013)

Earthquake (1974), directed by Mark Robson, with Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner, George Kennedy, Lorne Greene, Geneviève Bujold, Richard Roundtree, Marjoe Gortner, Barry Sullivan, Lloyd Nolan, Victoria Principal, Walter Matthau and Pedro Armendariz Jr. – An all-star cast slums it in a cheesy disaster flick. (See The Towering Inferno, Airport) Featuring Richard Roundtree (Shaft) in a supporting role and based on a screenplay co-written by Mario Puzo! This one’s especially for you folks who, one day, will undoubtedly recall to your grand kids exactly where you where when the Quake of 2011 shook up lightly jostled the Eastern coast. [IMDb, Trailer] – (Available until January 1, 2012)
