Hey, remember last year when we wrapped up 2013 with a podcast? I barely do either, mainly because listening to our podcasts is an act of self-flagellation so severe that to wring an joy from them you’d have to be a man of stone with a heart of steel … or something like that. Anyhoo, I’m a big ol’ lyin’ sumbitch, because I actually like listening to our podcasts, and so does Leeman. (Buy more bicycles!) So that’s two of us.
But still, we’re on a bit of a hiatus with the ol’ podcast, so I’m dropping in on the end of your 2014 with yet another year-in-review list. But here’s the good news – there’s no order to my list! You can kind of see how the list took shape – there’s some chronology still relevant in there, also alphabetization, since that’s the easiest way to order data with words. But the first thing on this list isn’t the best thing, and the last thing isn’t the least best. It’s just a bunch of stuff I liked.
I wrote about a lot of the stuff down here, and I’ve linked to my reviews where applicable. If I didn’t write about it, I likely linked to the artist or label page. (The artist and label pages are linked in the reviews if you’re looking for them – do some of your own legwork, I’m not your link monkey.) I wish I would have written about everything here, but I’m JUST ONE MAN. One man with a severely bitchin’ taste in music, so at least you’re in good hands.
Scroll down the list – I’ve posted album covers and linked to videos where I could. Where there were no videos you’ll get streaming music. So turn up the volume as you check this out and listen to some things and have some fun. All of these things made 2014 amazing for me in some way.
You might say, hang on a minute dude – don’t you guys write about movies and TV and comics and stuff too? Don’t get smart. But yeah, we do. Sometimes. But this is my list. I barely watch TV. I don’t read comics. I’ll tell you that I liked The Grand Budapest Hotel and Interstellar and Guardians of the Galaxy and Coherence. (I do like movies and I fear I missed some important ones.) I read a lot of Philip K. Dick this year, and I watched A Scanner Darkly for the first time after reading it and loved it. I read The Disaster Artist and The Magicians Land. So get crackin’.
So until 2015 – later!
